Following the death of District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman assumes responsibility for Dent's crimes in order to protect Dent's reputation and is hunted as a fugitive by the Gotham City Police Department. Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, Gotham has recovered from Joker's killing spree, and is experiencing a time of peace. A warning from the "enigmatic" Selina Kyle foreshadows a coming cataclysm, prompting Batman to return to the city where he must stop the villain Bane and his plans to destroy Gotham.
While the trailer does not give much more away in terms of plot, it does manage to increase the excitement I have for this film. The excitement ramps up due to a spectacular shot of a sinking football pitch, a tumbler firing upon a public place, chaos in Gotham, the Batpod chasing after a Tumbler and a quick shot of Batman and Bane trading blows. Also, Bane really looks menacing in his one line "When Gotham is in ashes, you have my permission to die"
If I had to speculate, I would guess that Bane either unmasks Batman or deduces that he's really Bruce Wayne, as a scene is shown of Bane standing over Bruce Wayne. Also, judging by a few shots where a cane is slightly visible and the posture of Bruce in a few scenes, perhaps Bane does what he's known for in the comics and "breaks the Bat". Plus, a scene shows a bearded Bruce in an unidentified location hearing the chanting which was visible in the first trailer, so perhaps Bane will be inserted into Bruce's back story.
One thing's for sure, the wait for this film's release is not going to be easy. But does the trailer ramp up your excitement for the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy? Watch it below and comment with your thoughts afterwards.
The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20th 2012
